Carla is a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and has been working with individual clients since April 2016 as well as offering group therapy, family therapy and individual and group supervision.
She has experience of working with all age groups but now focusses on working with individuals over the age of 18.
Integrative practice means that Carla is able to draw from a range of therapy approaches including person-centred, psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive. Carla's predominant approach is psychodynamic and utilises the development of a deep and effective therapeutic relationship with her clients.
Carla has worked successfully with a wide variety of client presentations, including counselling for anxiety, bereavement and grief counselling, counselling for low mood, and counselling for low self esteem. Carla's specialism is trauma therapy which has been developed experientially in the work she does with clients who are struggling to overcome relational trauma, domestic abuse and childhood abuse. Her approach helps clients to explore the impacts of traumatic experience and how that shows up in their body, their behaviours and their emotional response systems. This work is generally long term and is carried out mainly through the therapeutic relationship where reflection, self authority and change can be achieved.
Yes. Single Session Therapy is a longer, one off session. It involves some advance preparation where you will need to identify your dilemma and your desired outcome of the session. This will be used to formulate the session approach before we meet. SST sessions are usually 90 minutes in duration and are charged at £150. A pre-session call is included to help you with the advance preparation.
Absolutely! This is a very important part of finding a therapist that works well for you. When you send an enquiry message to Carla, she will respond offering an appointment for a free initial consultation. In that call you will have an opportunity to let her know what it is you are looking for from your therapy sessions and to gain some insight into how it is to share with Carla.
Sessions typically last for 50 minutes. We suggest that you allow for an hour so that endings don't need to feel rushed. Carla will manage the timings of sessions so that you can focus entirely on your personal process during the session.
Yes. It is possible to work with some international clients dependent on jurisdictional licensing and insurance restrictions.
Yes. Carla has worked with charities, employers and other third parties to provide sessions to individuals who are not in a position to self fund. While the contract for payment is with the funder, the contract for the counselling service remains with the client, this includes confidentiality and no information is shared with the funder with the exception of CORE outcome measures from the first and last session and the number of sessions attended if those are requested.
